School Made Me Hate Learning
I never spent time learning anything. I thought I just hated learning everything.
I am in school trying my hardest not to look at the clock as I try to finish the textbook in front of me.
Another day, I’m in school and I’ve completed a test. As I’m talking to my friends about the test results, I already forgot most of the test was about.
When I’m reading a book that I have to finish. It’s almost like time won’t move. I’m almost falling asleep trying to finish what my English teacher wanted me to read.
Every time I went home from school. I promise myself I will study.
Well in my whole 9 years of school, I never really studied.
Maybe I just hate learning.
One day, I decide to play the piano to get a better grade in music.
I’m learning this simple piece. I’m thinking why am I doing this. It will take hours to learn this, and I can’t even sit at my desk to study for 10 minutes.
My mother comes home one day and sees me sitting down at the keyboard piano.
7 hours later, at midnight. She thinks she’s dreaming.
Why does she hear wonderful music from a distance?
She comes down and sees that I’m still learning to play this piece.
She’s so impressed and I don’t even realize how fast time had passed.
I upload the video to Facebook, my teacher and class sees it. And I end up getting an A in music.
As I’m finishing school. I decide to retire my mother who would come home exhausted from her 9-5 job.
As I’m picking a job I would love, which was being a Gaming YouTuber. I’m all of the sudden working and learning harder than ever.
I’m watching video about the right thumbnails.
Reading Reddit about titles.
Spending hours editing my video second by second.
I’m reading about even tiny details that shouldn’t matter.
And all of the sudden, time feels the exact opposite of when I was in school.
I’m spending 14 hours in a single day working on the business. But it felt like 4.
I would however never read books.
Until one breakup makes me analyze what I want.
I’m going to become a millionaire.
All of the sudden, reading a book about money is fun and interesting.
I’m reading for only 30 minutes a day but it feels like 10 minutes.
I want to learn everything about money, marketing and sales.
Looking back, I never hated learning.
I hated learning things that meant nothing to me.
Every time something mattered to me, I loved learning it.
The piano.
The YouTube Channel.
Books.
Maybe I never hated learning.
I just hadn’t found what made me want to keep learning.
So ask yourself.
Do I hate learning? Or do I hate learning things that don’t matter to me?
I still sometimes don’t want to learn, I quit the piano piece I was learning because I loved it, but it was too difficult.
I picked it right back up because I am genuinely interested in learning it, even if I’m a little overwhelmed.
